Advice On Recycling Your Waste Electrical & Electronic Equipment (WEEE) & Batteries
No Waste Bin Disposal

Why are we involved?

Recycling facilities are now available where you can deposit your old electrical products. This is a requirement under UK and European legislation (The Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment – or WEEE – Directive). The aim of the legislation is to: Make good use of the materials that make up old electrical equipment by recycling them rather than disposing them in landfill and prevent the negative environmental effects of sending often hazardous electrical equipment to landfill.

You can also bring any unwanted electrical item into your nearest TEFAL Store for free recycling, even if you haven't bought it from us.

This is providing that the item returned is of equivalent type to, and has fulfilled the same function as the new product that is purchased.

Before bringing your unwanted electrical items into store for recycling, please make sure the product is in a presentable condition. Even if your old product doesn't have the 'crossed out wheeled bin' symbol, the good news is we'll gladly accept and recycle your old electrical and electronic equipment to the best of our ability.

How does this work in practice?

As a producer of electrical and electronic goods, Groupe SEB provides further services to ensure that equipment collected separately is dealt with properly.

We work through our stores with our partner REPIC to ensure compliancy and management of all B2C and B2B waste.

You are also able to take any old electrical equipment to Household Waste Recycling Centres run by your local council.

All Local Authorities in the UK do provide recycling facilities.

Where to dispose of WEEE?

Wherever practical, please do not dispose of old electrical waste with your general household waste, as it will then probably not be recycled and end up in general landfill or be incinerated.

If you are unsure as to where you can take your electrical waste for recycling, then you can:

  • To locate your nearest store from our store locator page (click here).
  • To locate your closest collection site at www.recycle-more.co.uk, (please remember to have your postcode to hand), or contact your local authority.

Other information

Unfortunately, much of the UK's electronic waste still ends up in landfill sites where it cannot be recycled to extract useful materials. This also means that there is a greater chance of the uncontrolled release of chemical substances contained within the equipment, with potentially adverse effects to the local environment. So, to help remind you to recycle, all new electrical products are marked with a crossed out wheeled bin symbol.

Batteries

There are a number of ways that you can dispose of your waste batteries and so ensure they are correctly recycled. Most shops (supermarkets, electrical retailers etc.) that sell batteries will have a collection box or bin located in the store. In addition, collection points are increasingly being established at public locations such as town halls, libraries or schools, as well as council civic amenity sites. To find a local facility please check: www.recyclenow.co.uk. Please note that waste batteries cannot be sent to us by post.
